Hello everyone! We are excited to announce some new changes coming to our hormone replacement therapy (HRT) program! We will now be offering expanded delivery options for HRT including injections and topicals. The introduction of these changes come as a result of patients desiring more options to fit their unique needs. HRT is not “one size fits all” and we want our wellness program to reflect that!
First off, let’s get into the nitty gritty about testosterone injections. Testosterone injections (in the form of compounded testosterone cypionate) have been around for decades! Traditionally used for men with hypogonadism (low testosterone), but now widely used for men and women for optimization purposes, these injections are performed 1-2 times weekly and can be injected into fat or muscle. Even more exciting is that we have sourced our injections from an amazing pharmacy that is able to compound the medication in MCT oil whereas commercially available products are compounded in seed oils. As we know, seed oils are inflammatory in the body and we want to avoid this if possible. MCT oil offers great health benefits including promotion of fat loss, increase in energy levels, boosting of testosterone levels, helps ketone production, aids in heart and gut health, and much more.
Injections are a great option for those who want to do testosterone replacement therapy but don’t want to use pellets for one reason or another. They are also available at a slightly lower cost than testosterone pellets. Testosterone injections can be shipped to your home in a 3 month supply. You will see a practitioner every 3 months while on testosterone therapy and labs will be drawn every 3 months until goals are achieved, and then every 6 months thereafter. Typically, cognitive benefits can be seen at around 2-4 weeks, physical performance and sexual function at 4-16 weeks, and consistency of well being at 6-12 months. Testosterone injections can be used in both men and women with appropriate dosing.
Second, we have topical solutions. Topical creams and patches are great for those who are needle-phobic and those who opt out of pelleting. Estrogen creams come in the form of biest which is a combination of estriol (E3) and estradiol (E2). These creams can be used in perimenopausal women who have low estrogen symptoms at “support” doses. Menopausal women will use estrogen creams at higher “replacement” doses to help control bothersome symptoms as well. The great thing is that testosterone can also be added to the estrogen cream for ease of use. Your cream, whether estrogen, testosterone, or both, will come in a “topiclick” container that makes dosing very accurate and easy for you. A 3 month supply of your topical product will be shipped to you and will apply it to a large area of clean dry skin typically on the inner thigh daily. You will want to avoid showering or sweating for 2 hours after applying your cream to allow for complete absorption. If estrogen creams aren’t your thing, we can always try a patch! Patches will be sent to your pharmacy of choice as a commercially available product. Patches are applied to the lower abdomen area and will remain there for one week, at which time the old patch will be taken off and a new one placed. There are pros and cons to each delivery method ranging from pellets to injections to topicals. If you want to know more, come in for a consultation and we can discuss which plan is best for you!
